(National Treasure) Hagurosan Goju-no-To [five-story pagoda] (こくほう)はぐろさん ごじゅうのとう
The Oldest Five-Story Pagoda in Tohoku Rises in the Mountains
Legend has it that this pagoda, oldest in Tohoku and located at the beginning of Ichinosaka on Hagurosan Approach surrounded by Japanese cedars, was built by Tairano Masakado.
The existing pagoda is said to be re-built about 600 years ago.
The pagoda is 29 meters high, wooden construction in Sanken-Goso-Kokerabuki style, and designated as a national treasure in 1966.
There is a huge, 1,000 years old Japanese cedar with diameter of 10 meters nearby.
