Cherry Blossoms of Bodhidarma おだるまのさくら
The legend of “Live Bodhidarma” has been passed down
and he was said to be buried here.
Cherry blossoms of Bodhidarma is a cherry tree variety named Edohigan which tends to live longer; this particular tree is one of the largest trees in the prefecture with about 12 meters in height. The diameter of the root is 8 meters, the trunk circumference on the height of the eye is 5.4 meters, and the estimated tree age is 750 years old.
It also used to be called “sowing cherry tree” because the tree blooms around the time of sowing at rice nursery. A lot of people visit here during the season from both inside and outside the prefecture.
