History and Culture of Tsuruoka are introduced and exhibited in this museum
The constructions which used to be San-no-maru of Tsurugaoka Castle and mansion of Shonai domain lord Sakai Family for feudal government’s official use open to public as museum.
Valuable historical buildings designated national important cultural assets such as former Nishitagawa-gun governmental office, folk dwelling with multi-story, and former Tsuruoka Police Department Building have been move to the premise.
Also, uncommon garden in shoin-zukuri style and 5,350 important tangible folk cultural assets in 8 categories including folk implements that can reveal the lifestyle in Shonai Area are stored and on exhibit.
