Sankyo Soko has passed down the history of Sakata’s prosperity as a rice shipping port; also was used as a location of NHK’s morning drama series “Oshin.” This agricultural warehouse is still on active duty having made the most of ancient wisdom to utilize the natural environment such as planting trees of Japanese selkova behind the warehouse in order to prevent rising temperature during summer and making the roof two layers in order to keep moisture out of inside.

Sakata-shi tourism and products center “Sakata Yume-no-Kura” and Historical Museum of Shonai Rice in the same premise are also popular spots for visitors.

36 Japanese zelkova trees, which are more than 150 years old, change colors as the season goes by and attract visitors.

※Sankyo Soko is selected as one of “Yamagata Scenery Story – 33 Recommended View Points.”
