Ultimate Yudonosan Mountain Worship: Sokushinbutsu “Shinnyokai-shonin” Enshrined
The 9th hallow ground of Shonai Sanjusan-Kannon [33 Deities of Mercy]
This is Sohonji of Yudonosan known as a temple founded by Kobo Daishi.
Known far and wide as a temple visited by Kasuga-no-Tsubone of Tokugawa Shogunate family for prayer with its principle image crafted by Kobo Daishi himself, Sokushinbutsu “Shinnyokai-shonin,” and designated national important cultural property “Shaka-nyorai (Kongobutsu).”
Fujin-Raijin is also enshrined; further in the back, there stands “Nio-mon [Nio Gate]” crafted by Unkei (Designated prefectural cultural property) with Nio statue.
Lately, old Japanese cedar about 27 meters tall on former premise “Odan-no-Sugi” (designated prefectural cultural property) has come under the spotlight as a power spot.
Lodging is also available. (Reservation required)

※The principle image is on exhibit in 2015 due to the link of the year of the ram.
