Tourist Foothold in Sakata: “Sankyo Soko”
2 buildings of Sankyo Soko, still on active duty as grain warehouse and known as a symbol of Shonai which is one of the famous rice-growing areas in the nation, were renovated and came back to life as tourist facilities in 2004.
Wide selection of Sakata’s souvenirs, light meals, and restaurant are available inside.
In the museum, introduction of Sakata’s history and Kame-Kasaboko [decorated umbrella used for traditional festival] are on exhibit.

Crimson ~ which expresses high office and rank in noble family from the ~ Heian era

From the Edo era to the early period of Meiji, as for the dye to dye red, safflower which became raw materials of lipstick and kimono dyeing was valued high without most.
Although it was cultivated in various places throughout Tohoku, of good quality, and, as for the Mogami safflower of the Murayama district, amount of production was rich among other things and was nationwide known production center.
Safflower unloaded by Mogami River water transportation once in Sakata and was put on Sea of Japan western marine route of goods-carrying merchant ship, and most crossed all the way to Kyoto, Osaka.

 We pick up petal as plant dye to dye using petal itself and wash and let you ferment and are finished dyeing in deep red rice cake by the skill of artisan after doing.

As there are scarf and handkerchief, a lot of sale products including strap, come casually.
